Kombucha Cans - FAQs
Why Cans?
Cans are more sustainable than glass bottles!
Glass bottles have a higher degree of negative impact on our environment compared to cans over the product life cycle due to high-energy requirements in the manufacturing and distribution process. From mining the materials for glass, to the heating and cooling requirements in producing glass, to the additional gas it takes to transport the heavier glass bottles from supplier to us and through our distribution channels.
Cans are becoming the preferred way to package due their reduced environmental impacts.
"If you can find aluminum cans made from 100% recycled materials, they should be your top choice when shopping for single-serving beverages. Their low transportation footprint and ease of recyclability make them a winner” according to an Earth911.
Cans are economically more feasible, as we want to make sure our customers are not seeing massive price increases on the shelf. Our glass bottle cost went up 84% in 2022... we could not pass that cost increase along to you or continue our low-price, high-quality business model in glass bottles due to these inflationary and supply chain price increases in the glass market.
Will you make kombucha bottles and kombucha cans?
Going forward we will only be producing our kombucha in cans. Glass is a quickly depleting resource. Glass bottles are also super limiting and our supply chain has been a nightmare. We look at this as an opportunity to package our kombucha in a more eco-friendly, sustainable package that is lighter weight and more durable which makes our kombucha more customer friendly. Think beach, lake, outdoor trails, sports fields, parks, and other places our glass bottles were not allowed in the past. The can packaging allows our kombucha to be more travel-friendly and join you wherever you go in life!
Are your cans safe?
Yes! We have partnered with one of the leading can manufactures in the United States and they ensure there is no intentionally added BPA in the cans and can-liners we are purchasing. BPA historically was used in the inner lining of aluminum cans. We have made sure this is not the case with any packaging we use in our manufacturing process.
Will the kombucha flavor change?
No! Our kombucha recipe and brewing operations have not changed. Our certified organic kombucha is still brewed and fermented for 30+ days using the same recipes. In fact, these cans help preserve our liquid kombucha more than the glass bottles due to the filling and seaming process and limiting light exposure in the market which degrades the kombucha.
Who is the Artist?
Christen Lucas is a local female artist who led the re-brand. Previously she was a professional photographer, but found her calling and passion in illustration. She has illustrated a book available on Amazon titled “The Adventures of the Lollipop: We’re Going to the Moon” and as well has worked with other Charlotte small businesses in various ways. You can see her work via @christenlucasillustrations on Instagram. The new kombucha can art and design is all hand-drawn by Christen using leading lines, balance, and direction to creatively draw your eyes to and across her illustrations. We could not be more proud to be working with this amazing local artist.
